Publishing to an Exchange

If your organization has been invited to an exchange as a posting member, you can publish listings to it the same way you publish to the Marketplace. This page covers what is different when the target is a partner exchange; for everything else (listing fields, statuses, subscriptions, and metrics) see the Data Providers guide.

Prerequisites​

Your organization needs the Post role on the exchange, granted by the exchange's owner organization. That happens by invitation: the owner sends you an invitation code, you redeem it on behalf of your organization, and the owner approves your organization. Redeeming alone grants nothing, so you cannot publish until that approval lands. There is no way to request access unprompted; if you'd like to publish to an exchange, contact the owner organization and ask for an invitation.

Choosing an Exchange for a Listing​

When you create a listing, the form includes an Exchange field listing every catalog your organization can publish to: the Earthmover Marketplace (if your organization is a verified data provider) plus any partner exchanges where your organization holds the post role.

Every listing belongs to exactly one exchange. To offer the same dataset on several exchanges, create a separate listing on each one.

How Members Get Your Data​

Only organizations that are members of the exchange can see your listings there. Any of them can subscribe instantly and receives a direct subscription: a read-only repo in their own organization that mirrors your repo.

A listing on a partner exchange shares the whole repository, so every group and variable in it reaches subscribers. The create form's Define What's Included step summarizes exactly what that covers before you publish. To share only part of a dataset, list a repo that contains only the data you want to hand over.

If Your Membership Is Revoked​

If the owner organization removes your organization's posting membership, it chooses what happens to the listings you published there:

  • Kept listings remain visible on the exchange, but become read-only for your organization: you can still delete them, but editing requires being re-invited as a posting member.
  • Unpublished listings disappear from the exchange's catalog. You keep the listings and can republish them if your organization is re-invited.

In both cases, organizations that already subscribed to your listings keep their data access.

Managing Your Listings​

Everything else about your listings works exactly as on the Marketplace: statuses, README and license content, deletion, subscriptions, and metrics. Manage them under Publish → Listings, whichever exchange they are on. Analytics → Exchanges charts their metrics, one exchange at a time.
